Sometimes people have misconceptions created about the cost and care of practical and modern choices. I assist clients daily in homes and showrooms helping make major decisions on choices for appliances and cabinetry. Here are a few myths that come up time and time again.
Kitchen Design Myths
The Cost of Cabinet Finishes:
Myth # 1: White painted cabinets are less money than wood stained cabinets
Many people think because painting a room is a cheap fix that applies to factory finished cabinetry.
In actual fact a painted maple shaker door is about 10 percent more than a stained maple shaker door.
This is because paint for cabinets is more expensive than the stain.
The cost of wood species will vary in pricing, but generally is in the sequence lower price of alder, to maple, then cherry then walnut. It varies in price according to how rare it is.

Stainless Steel Appliances:
Myth #2: Stainless steel appliances are difficult to clean
Stainless Steel is stainless – it does not stain and spot permanently. It’s sad to me when people discard this wonderful finish with the excuse it’s hard to clean.
It just takes a different cleaning technique. Weiman Wipes-- work amazingly well and are not expensive and easy to get at Wall mart. www.weiman.com
Stainless steel gleams, reflects light and looks clean in a kitchen of any colour. It’s also not going out of style any time soon.
Kitchen Designers:
Myth #3: Designers are expensive
Not really -when you save a lot of time and money not making mistakes and having to fix them along the way. (Shameless plug) Call me now with your design problems: 778-908-1804 Shelley Scales
